Custody, or keep it working

Custody — the machine comes to us

We collect the machine and store it at a secured, insured yard for the duration of the loan. You get a higher advance rate (up to 55% LTV) because our risk is lower — we hold the asset.

Best for machines that are between contracts, parked idle, or where you need the maximum cash advance. Collection and return are at our cost within Gauteng; other provinces quoted on application.

Minimum loan: R100,000. Typical turnaround: same day once the machine is inspected.

In use — the machine stays on site

The machine remains on your site, earning revenue. We register a special notarial bond under the Security by Means of Movable Property Act 57 of 1993. The bond is noted against the serial number on the national register.

Advance rates are lower (up to 40% LTV) because the asset is not in our possession, and the minimum loan is higher (R250,000). The machine must have a legible serial plate — no serial, no bond, no loan.

Best for machines actively deployed on a contract where downtime would cost more than the rate difference.

Eligibility

Who qualifies for a plant loan

01

Owner of the machine

You must own the machine outright, or have a settlement letter from the existing financier showing the outstanding balance. We pay out the existing finance and advance the difference.

02

South African individual or entity

Individuals, companies, close corporations and trusts registered in South Africa. The machine must be located in South Africa at the time of inspection.

03

Machine in working condition

The machine must be operational and in reasonable condition for its age. We do not lend against non-runners, stripped units, or machines awaiting major rebuild — unless they are coming into custody for storage.

04

No sequestration, business rescue or judgments

Applicants and their directors must not be under sequestration, in business rescue, or subject to unsatisfied court judgments exceeding R50,000.

The Process

From photographs to funds

STEP 01

Send photos and the serial number

We need clear photographs of the machine (all four sides, the serial plate, the hour meter, and the cab interior) plus the serial/PIN number. Email or WhatsApp — whatever is easiest.

STEP 02

We value and structure

Our team pulls OEM data (Cat PSR, Komtrax, JCB LiveLink where available), checks wholesale market comps, and sends you a facility letter within hours.

STEP 03

Inspection and collection (custody) or bond registration (in use)

For custody: we arrange collection to our secured yard. For in-use: we inspect on site and register the notarial bond — typically 48 hours.

STEP 04

Funds in your account

Once the machine is in custody or the bond is registered, we transfer the advance to your nominated bank account. Custody deals often fund same day; in-use deals within 48 hours of inspection.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is "yellow metal"? +

Industry term for heavy construction and mining equipment — excavators, TLBs, loaders, graders, dump trucks and similar. Named for the yellow paint most OEMs use. We also accept equipment that is not yellow (cranes, forklifts, drill rigs) under the same product.

Can I keep using the machine while the loan is active? +

Yes, under the in-use structure. We register a notarial bond and the machine stays on your site. Under the custody structure, the machine comes to our yard and you cannot use it until the loan is repaid.

What if my machine is still under finance? +

We can settle the existing finance and advance the difference, provided the machine’s value exceeds the settlement amount by a sufficient margin. Send us the settlement letter and we will quote.

Do you accept imported machines? +

Yes, provided they are in South Africa, have a legible serial plate, and clear customs documentation. Grey imports without papers are not accepted.

What happens if the machine breaks down during a custody loan? +

The machine is stored and insured at our yard. We do not operate it, so mechanical risk is minimal. If damage occurs while in our custody, our insurance covers it.

How do you value the machine? +

We use a combination of OEM telematics data (where available), wholesale market comparables from dealer networks and auction results, and a physical or photographic inspection. We do not use retail or replacement values.

Is there a maximum age or hours limit? +

No hard cutoff, but machines older than 15 years or with more than 15,000 hours are assessed individually and may attract a lower LTV. Well-maintained machines from Tier 1 OEMs age better than others.

Can I top up my loan if the machine increases in value? +

Yes. If the machine’s market value has increased (rare, but it happens in supply-constrained periods), we can re-value and advance the difference. Contact us with an updated valuation request.

What areas do you cover for collection? +

Collection within Gauteng is at our cost. For other provinces we quote transport separately — typically R8,000–R25,000 depending on machine size and distance. We arrange the transport.

How quickly can I get my machine back after repaying? +

Same day if repayment clears before 14:00. We release the machine from the yard and you can collect it or we arrange return transport.
